Mounting bearings with a tapered bore
Bearings with a tapered bore are always mounted with an interference fit. To obtain the proper degree of interference, one of the following methods can be used:
- feeling the clearance reduction by swivelling the outer ring
- measuring the lock nut tightening angle
- measuring the axial drive-up
applying the SKF Drive-up Method

The most suitable method for bearings mounted on shafts with a diameter ≥ 50 mm is the SKF Drive-up Method, which is a fast, reliable and safe method to achieve the appropriate interference fit. For additional information, refer to SKF Drive-up Method Program.
