Twin screw process gas compressors

Caustic conditions for bearings

Used to boost natural gas line pressure over thousands of miles of pipe, twin screw compressors provide a more efficient alternative to reciprocating compressors.

As with all twin screw designs, the bearings within must support rotor loads and help ensure accurate radial and axial rotor positioning – reliably, with low friction and low noise. Given that the gas that emerges from the wellhead can be caustic, twin screw gas compressor bearings must also be able to handle corrosive gases.

SKF can help

Informed by extensive experience in the oil and gas industries, SKF offers a range of bearing solutions developed for corrosive environments. Super-corrosion-resistant bearing steel, advanced cage materials, plus various coatings and surface preparations are available to help extend bearing life and compressor reliability.
