The SKF India Sports Academy

SKF Sports academy Pune cricket team members

Together with Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and 'NAVAM' non-government organization, SKF India initiated a sports academy for under-privileged in July 2005.

The objective of the Sports Academy is to provide children in Pune the opportunities to both physical and mental growth and development through sports activities.

The academy is hosted on SKF’s site in Pune. SKF India provides football and cricket coaching sessions, hockey training for girls, and recently also initiated an all girls football team.

The girls field hockey team has won several local tournaments, including one organized by the Women's Hockey Association, Maharashtra -'Dean Doctor Memorial Hockey Tournament'- in honour of Mr. Dean Doctor, an avid Hockey player & Coach from St. Joseph's School Pashan, Pune.

The boys’ football team has participated in Meet the World and Gothia Cup, and one of the graduates from the academy played on national level for Pune FC in the prestigious Durant Cup in 2013.

Besides sports, other necessities to help develop and nurture the talents are also provided. The academy is offering a learning experience for the children on values such as teamwork and equality, which in turn aspire to their overall growth and development.

Mentorship programme

In combination with sports and development, SKF have initiated mentorship programme by which senior managers in SKF India’s organization volunteer to personally mentor the kids in the academy on concerns other than sports, such as career planning, health and social issues. All volunteers go through training on how to mentor the kids of the academy.
