Subsea turbocompressors

Oil and gas companies have recently chosen to move gas compression systems from the platforms to the seabed. Subsea gas compression enables both improved energy efficiency and lower costs to help recover the remaining reserves in the existing gas fields.
SKF is a central partner in this new market as Active Magnetic Bearings make it possible to operate and control the rotation of the subsea compression units with many advantages: high performance, small footprint, high reliability, no human intervention, and high monitoring capabilities.
STATOIL awarded SKF the first contract to deliver subsea magnetic bearing systems intended for the Asgard gas field subsea compression station in the North Sea, which has been in operation since September 2015. In addition, SKF provided the bearing for the Ormen Lange pilot project.
