SKF composite housings are made from a glass fibre reinforced polyamide material. These lightweight housings resist a variety of chemicals and diluted acids.

Relubrication-free unitsThe sealed Y-bearing is pre-lubricated for the life of the bearing with a lithium/calcium base grease. This long lasting, water-resistant grease combined with the highly effective integral seals and high performance design of appropriately selected SKF Y-bearing units can provide long, reliable service life without the costs and environmental issues of relubrication.
These units are also available with SKF Energy Efficient (E2) Y-bearings to meet the ever-increasing demands for reduced friction and increased service life. The E2 Y-bearings are filled with a special low-noise, low-friction SKF grease.
Sealing solutions, bearing designs and materials
Assembled, ready-to-mount, SKF Y-bearing units with composite housings are available fitted with standard Y-bearings that feature either of two standard sealing solutions. In addition, these units are available with SKF Energy Efficient (E2) Y-bearings for energy savings (Table 1).
SKF composite housings can, however, be assembled with all appropriately sized SKF Y-bearing designs. This includes all shaft location methods, all material options (e.g. zinc-coated and stainless steel bearings) and all seal options (see standard seal options for SKF Y-bearing units with composite housings).
