To detect impulsive signals (also at slow speed)
SKF’s patented "acceleration enveloping" is globally recognised as an immensely powerful method to detect bearing wear and bearing damage. The method is not restricted to acceleration signals and can be applied to the output from a microphone (noise signal). Nor is the method restricted to bearings but any machine or system that emits impulses due to faults, e.g. gear mesh in gearboxes.
To get the best out of the method it is vitally important to have a firm understanding of the correct way to use it. This is especially true of ultra-slow speed machines where, if used correctly, enveloping can be used to detect gear faults and bearing faults.
