SKF shows innovation at the World Tribology Congress 2013
2013 September 09, 13:00 CET
Gothenburg, 9 September 2013: SKF participates, as main sponsor, in the the fifth World Tribology Congress (WTC) in Turin 8-13 September, a global event dedicated to tribology, the study and application of the principles of friction, lubrication and resistance. During the course of the event, in which 1,300 guests from five continents will participate, 1,200 research abstracts will be presented. SKF is strengthened by its extensive engineering knowledge as well as close collaboration with a number of universities, which has provided an important contribution to the evolution of movement in the field of mechanics.
WTC is organized by the Associazione Italiana di Tribologia (AIT - Italian Tribology Association) in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino and the Università di Pisa (University of Pisa).
Alan Begg, Senior Vice President, Group Technology Development SKF; Aurelio Nervo, Managing Director, SKF Italy; Marco Gilli, Rector of the Politecnico di Torino (Polytechnic University of Turin); and Filippo Zingariello, Director Global Strategic Development SKF will participate in the press conference.
In the context of the WTC on 9th September SKF is organizing a press conference under the title "Innovation in Movement", which is intended to illustrate the Group's commitment to researching new tools and solutions capable of generating innovation, efficiency and competivity. During the course of the seminar, the role of innovation for SKF, collaboration with the academic world and guidelines for the future development of SKF will be presented.
”SKF has increased its investment in technology significantly over the recent years. WTC is an important venue for SKF since it gives us the unique opportunity to present our recent progress in the research field to the academic world and to our customers,” says Alan Begg, Senior Vice President, Group Technology Development SKF.
The SKF knowledge underlies the wide offer of products and solutions from five technology platforms (bearings and units, seals, mechatronics, lubrication systems, services), but most successes are the result of the progresses in tribology, the science of interacting surfaces, including the study of friction.
"SKF's presence at the WTC further reinforces our profile as a knowledge engineering company. We are investing in innovation, research and sustainability not only to produce bearings, but to offer our clients a vast range of products, solutions and services in order to be able to satisfy the need arising from various industrial sectors and to contribute to saving energy and therefore to protecting the environment, by means of the SKF BeyondZero portfolio" says Aurelio Nervo, Managing Director of SKF Italy.
Within the WTC, a SKF will also show the latest innovations of the SKF brand, such as the SKF BeyondZero portfolio, which contains products that offer enhanced environmental performance characteristics. Within the stand the groundbreaking SKF Insight™ technology, will also be displayed. The technology integrates intelligent wireless technologies within SKF's bearings. Thanks to sensors and electronics, the bearings are today able to communicate their operating conditions in a continuous manner identifying any damage in real time. The result is greater operating knowledge and improved planning of maintenance which bring significant reductions in the costs of the activities.
Furthermore SKF will show the new generation of super precision bearings, the cloud-based diagnostic services, the integrated services of the SKF Solution Factory network of centres of excellence, the SKF 18K gearbox concept and the offering dedicated to the automotive, off-highway and aerospace industries.
