SKF initative brings greater clarity to fitting instructions

SKF is the first in the market to start printing its fitting instructions directly inside its timing belt kit product boxes as part of a new initiative to further improve technical standards in the automotive aftermarket and support garage technicians. The kits concerned are SKF timing belt kits (VKMA) as well as SKF timing belt kits with water pump (VKMC). The fitting instructions will be gradually implemented into these boxes as of August 2011.
The precision parts manufacturer has traditionally printed its helpful generic fitting instructions on sheets of paper that have then been inserted into the product boxes. But by printing directly onto the product box, SKF believes its new initiative will bring an added number of practical benefits:
Not only are these latest generic fitting instructions easier to view, there is also no text involved – just simple and clear graphic instructions. The dismantling instructions are conveniently printed on the lid and the installation instructions underneath the product itself.
During tests, SKF has found its generic fitting instructions are easier to read and do not bring unnecessary disruption to the repair routine.
This new initiative will also be good for the environment since SKF will make significant paper savings.
Olivier Vigier, SKF Product Manager Engine & Chassis, said: “We are constantly looking at ways to improve technical competence in the aftermarket and part of that process is making sure vehicle technicians always have the correct technical information at their fingertips. Printing our generic fitting instructions directly onto the timing belt kit product boxes means technicians don’t have to worry about handling separate pieces of paper during the repair process. We are the first supplier to introduce this simple initiative which will definitely help to improve basic working practices.”
This initiative only applies to SKF’s generic fitting instructions for the time being. If a kit requires specific fitting instructions, this will be glued above the generic diagrams on the timing belt kit box or simply inserted in the timing belt kit with water pump box. Look out for the specific fitting instructions sticker on the box!
