Environmental and ecological awareness always play important roles in our daily operation. As early as 1989, SKF enacted the environmental policy of the company. SKF was one of the first multinational companies in the world to receive ISO 14001 certification, which in 2011 covered 103 sites in 30 countries.

We firmly commit to contributing to ecologically sustainable development. With the implementation of various SKF Group activities, SKF continuously strives to improve environmental performance and to ensure people’s health and safety.
Based on a philosophy of caring for the environment, SKF has also introduced the BeyondZero portfolio, which includes products and solutions. The portfolio can both improve
energy efficiency and help clients to achieve more environmentally friendly production.

SKF ConRo is suitable for the iron and steel industry. The expected annual reduction of carbon dioxide produced is 1.5 metric tons per roller per year. A normal continuous casting machine consists of 400 roll lines and, therefore, SKF ConRo can help to cut about 600 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year.

SKF Energy Monitoring Service – Pump Systems has recently helped SKF clients in the pulp and paper industry to reduce annual power demand by 2,000 megawatts, equivalent to
an annual reduction of more than 1,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

The SKF Bus-Door Actuator can reduce energy consumption by 80–90%. If urban buses use the SKF Bus-Door Actuator to replace pneumatic actuators for controlling doors, 1.9 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced every year per actuator.

SKF Rotor Positioning Bearing is an integral part of the start-stop system of micro-hybrid vehicles. In cities with heavy traffic, a start-stop system can reduce up to 15% of oil consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Assuming an annual mileage of 14,500 km, the corresponding annual reduction of carbon dioxide emissions would be 75 kilograms.

SKF Solar Linear Actuator CASD-60 reduces carbon dioxide emissions by helping a rigid solar panel to generate 5.8 megawatts more power per year, equivalent to an annual reduction of 4.4 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per actuator. Compared with photovoltaic solar panel systems, this actuator helps to generate on average 15% more power.

SKF Nautilus bearings are suitable for the wind power industry. A three-megawatt turbine operating in a typical onshore environment can generate 9,000 megawatt hours of renewable energy every year, roughly equivalent to a reduction of 6,700 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
