Gothenburg, 6 October, 2013: Officially presented at EICMA (71st International Motorcycle Exhibition, Milan, 7th -10th November 2013), the fork mud scraper Kit is an innovative solution developed specifically for the off-road market. It is designed to be positioned above the fork without the need to dismantle the wheel, due to an innovative design, the solution is applied to the fork and is closed by cotter pins.
It is a ready-to-use solution, so can be used according to conditions on the ground The fork mud scraper Kit prevents contamination from mud and the abrasion it causes, thus ensuring the performance of the fork and the operating conditions of the seal and at the same time, also ensuring the rider’s safety.
The fork mud scraper Kit has been developed entirely by SKF with laboratory and on track testing to achieve the fine tuning necessary for actual operating conditions and subsequent performance optimization.
The solution, mounted on the Kayaba PSF (Pneumatic Spring Fork) was used during the last round of the Enduro World Championship race in St. Flour in France by the Jolly Racing - Honda Racing EN team, winner of the E2 World Championship.
In addition to the innovative design, the fork mud scraper Kit uses the polyurethane material X-ECOPUR, an SKF proprietary material characterized by high abrasion resistance alongside an excellent smoothness.
The kit includes two fork mud scrapers, cotter pins for fastening and a handy instruction leaflet.
Thanks to its innovative features, the solution offers obvious and tangible advantages. “Given the ease of assembly/disassembly, it can be used only when really needed, such as when there is mud” says Paolo Giraudo, Global Business Development Two Wheeler SKF Sealing Solutions manager, “a feature that makes it particularly interesting for other segments, such as for example, MTB."
SKF attendance at EICMA, demonstrates its commitment to technological innovation in the two wheeler market. SKF is participating at the exhibition along with INNTECK, leader in the aftermarket of the off-road motorcycle industry and which is based in Alba (CN, Italy).
At the INNTECK stand (Hall 4, Stand Q69), in addition to the fork mud scraper Kit, SKF will display sealing solutions such as the fork seals kit, wheel seal kit and seal head unit.
The fork seals kit is composed of a motorcycle oil seal and a dust cover, made with an innovative self-lubricating compound developed to achieve greater sealing performance. The solution ensures durability, water protection, reduced friction and high protection from contaminants.
The wheel seal kit was developed specifically for applications such as the world of off-road, where there is contact with a high level of contaminants. Thanks to an innovative design and specific research into the materials, the seal is highly efficient and resistant to high water pressure (washed with a pressure washer), associated with a marked reduction in friction to the benefit of the rolling element of the wheel.
Both products have been awarded the highest rating by the prestigious American magazine MXA (Motocross Action Magazine).
The seal head unit is an integrated application for on/off-road vehicles. It can improve vehicle performance and driver comfort while simplifying maintenance. It can operate in a wide range of temperatures, from -40 up to 150 degrees, and is composed of pre-assembled elements which simplify the maintenance operations.
