Centrifugal compressors

More reliability for air-conditioning and air-compressor applications

Typically used to chill the water circulating through heat exchangers in large HVAC systems, centrifugal compressors comprise a dynamic compression family of machines. These units accelerate a refrigerant medium at high speeds through one or more impellers, converting the kinetic energy into static pressure.

Today’s centrifugal compressors must also deliver robust, and increasingly, energy-efficient performance for air-compressor applications. In wastewater treatment facilities, for example, aerator blowers account for about 70% of a plant’s total energy use.

Cost and energy-efficient solutions from SKF

SKF has developed several special bearing solutions for centrifugal compressors, from traditional units to designs that use refrigerants as bearing lubricants. Regardless of compressor size, load, or operating location, SKF solutions can help it run more reliably and cost-effectively.

SKF centrifugal compressor solutions are at work in several process industries:
  • Wastewater treatment
  • Power generation
  • Food and beverage
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Chemicals
  • Pulp and paper
  • Cement
