Mounting and dismounting
The method and tools used to mount SKF plummer block roller bearing units depend on the type of unit and means of location on the shaft.
Metric SKF ConCentra unitsThe mounting collar of metric SKF ConCentra units is equipped with M6 grub screws, the number of which depends on the bearing unit size. SKF recommends using a torque wrench to tighten/loosen these grub screws (fig 1). The tightening torque is 8 Nm. A preloaded wave spring facilitates the dismounting of the unit when the grub screws are loosened.
A spanner or hexagonal key can be used to tighten/loosen the attachment bolts.
Inch SKF ConCentra unitsAll inch SKF ConCentra units are supplied with a specially designed hexagonal key 3L, in accordance with ISO 2936:2001, with a torque indicator to tighten/loosen the grub screws (fig 2). A spanner or hexagonal key can be used to tighten/loosen the attachment bolts.
Mounting instructions are supplied with the bearing unit and should be followed carefully.
