Subsea turbocompressors

The world’s first subsea gas compression system has been in operation since September 2015. Statoil awarded SKF the contract for the subsea magnetic bearing systems for the Åsgard gas field subsea compression station in the North Sea.  This pioneering installation is maximizing gas recovery and prolonging the life of the field.

SKF is a central partner in this new market as magnetic bearings make it possible to operate and control the rotation of the subsea compression units with many advantages: high performance, small footprint, proven reliability, no human intervention, remote control and high monitoring capabilities.
