SKF India LtdSKF India Ltd's six member Board of Directors includes three independent members and two senior executives from SKF Group. The members steer the operations focused on Audit, Nominations & Governance, Executive Development, Finance, Performance and Reviews.
Mr. Rakesh Makhija was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors in July 2015. Prior to this he was the President, SKF Asia from January 2010. Before which he was the Managing director of SKF India and successfully led SKF India to a path of high growth and market leadership. Under his leadership, SKF India has more than tripled its sales and has been recognized through numerous industry awards for market leadership, amongst them the prestigious ‘CNBC Business Leader Award for Talent Management’ in 2007.
Rakesh has been associated with SKF Group for over 7 years as the Managing Director of the Company and is responsible to work closely with the various business divisions for building a strong infrastructure for SKF in Asia to drive the next phase of growth in the region. During this period he had taken several initiatives to focus on growth, value addition and cost effectiveness besides overseeing the company’s businesses.
Through his key initiatives to drive the growth for the company, Rakesh has played an instrumental role in the SKF Group receiving recognition and awards from its various suppliers, customers and institution. Few of these recognitions are:
- CNBC Asia’s ‘India Business Leader Award’ for Talent Management
- ‘Autofit Rolling Trophy’ at the 4th National convection on Six Sigma organized by the CII.
- ‘Dun and Bradstreet – American Express Corporate Award’ as the top company in the Bearing Sector.
- Best Quality /Supplier award from Bajaj, Lucas TVS and ELGI
- ‘Green Manufacturer of the Year’ for promoting green practices within SKF manufacturing facilities
Prior to joining SKF, Rakesh held a number of senior management positions with Tata Honeywell and Honeywell International, the global Industrial and Aerospace company. In
1997, he was nominated to the Tata Honeywell Board of Directors and soon after named as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. In April 2000, he was appointed Country Manager and Managing Director of Honeywell International, with responsibilities for driving the company’s growth in South Asia. Before Honeywell, Rakesh worked with Kinetics Technology International BV, a process engineering company in Netherlands, for over eight years.
Rakesh also represents as a Member on the Board of Wafangdian Bearing Company Limited, SKF Bearings Industries (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd and P.T. SKF Indonesia.
Rakesh is based in Mumbai, India and holds a Chemical Engineer degree from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi
Carl has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and joined SKF as a trainee in the finance department in 1987. Within the first year, he had the opportunity to work in Panama, Colombia and Venezuela before taking on the role of Finance Manager for SKF vehicle parts in Gothenburg in 1989.
Carl took on the role of Area Controller of SKF Latin America from 1992 to 1996 and then went on to take charge as the Managing Director and Sales Manager for SKF Peru from 1996 to 1998.
Between 1998 and 1999, he spearheaded the reorganization of area logistics and sales units in Argentina as the Project Manager SKF Latin America. Thereafter, over the next five years, he successfully handled responsibilities as Area Director SKF Service Division for Latin America. In 2004, he took on the profile of a Division Controller of SKF Industrial Division.
Carl took on the role of the Managing Director of SKF Sweden in 2006. Additionally, he was responsible for eight business units in Sweden, UK and USA as Cluster Manager-Self Aligning Bearings and led 2300 employees. His profile also encompassed product and business development for one of the most prestigious bearing product lines. His role as the Managing Director of SKF Sweden enabled him to gain insights into the union and government relations as well.
From 2011 till 2018 he held the position of Business Area Controller for SKF Automotive. In the Automotive and Aero business, in addition to the controlling function, he was also at the helm of the Supply Chain, Investments and Integrated Cost Reductions. He has been a driving force behind the Automotive Turn-Around Plan that delivered significant improvements to the operating margins annually.
Carl assumed charge as the Managing Director of SKF India Limited with effect from April 01, 2018.
Carl enjoys sports, especially soccer but trying to understand cricket, as well as movies and literature.
After his association of 20 years with ICI Limited, Mr. Menon joined Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Chemicals and held several positions of higher order like the Technical Director and Agri Business Sector Chief at the Nagarjuna Group. He is presently on the Board of Tata Chemicals Limited, Tata Industries Limited, Tata Projects Limited, Tata Consulting Engineers Limited, Tata Ceramics Limited, Tata BP Solar India Limited, NELCO Limited, Supervisory Board of the Sanmar Group and Axis Bank Limited.
Furthermore, Mr. Menon is the Chairman of Tata Quality Management Services, Tata Group Safety Committee and a member of other key Tata Group Committees, like Climate Change & Business Excellence. In addition, he is also the member of the Advisor Council of IITB-Monash Research Academy, Governing Council of Centre for Environment Education, Nehru Foundation for Development, and is also the first President of the Korea-India Business Association.
Mr Telang, a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from VNIT Nagpur, has always had a keen passion for the automotive and aerospace industry. After spending the first three years of his career with Larsen & Toubro, he, did his MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and joined the Tata Group in 1972 through the prestigious Tata Administrative Service (TAS) cadre. Ever since, he has been in the management team of Tata Motors.
His journey through Tata Motors has been a rich and varied one. He joined Tata Motors on 1st June, 1972 and spent the early years with the Machinery Manufacturing Division, designing and manufacturing equipment required for Tata Motors’ automobile activities. He then did a stint with the Projects department, which was responsible for launching new products which were cutting edge at their time. In 1986, he joined the vehicle manufacturing operations and thereafter grew to Head Commercial Vehicle manufacturing Operations in Pune and Dharwad plants.
He became President CVBU Pune on 1st July, 2004. Subsequently on 18th May 2007, he was appointed Executive Director , Commercial Vehicle Business Unit and on 2nd June, 2009 he became the Managing Director.During his term as Managing Director, he has spearheaded Tata Motors’ growth in the Small Commercial vehicle segment.
On the passenger car business as well, Tata Motors has emerged with some exciting and innovative products under his leadership.
Mr. P.M.Telang stepped down on 21st June, 2012 from the post of Managing Director, Tata Motors Limited after attaining the superannuation age of 65 years.
Even post his superannuation, he continues to be associated with strategically important ventures within the Tata Group and beyond. He is currently the Chairman of Telco Construction Equipment Company Limited. He is Director on the board of Tata Advanced Systems Limited, Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited, Fiat India Automobiles Limited and Tara Aerospace Systems Limited. In addition, he is also an Independent Director on the Board of Persistent Systems Ltd.
He has been recognised for his achievements as ‘Distinguished Alumnus’ by both his alma maters – VNIT Nagpur and IIM Ahmedabad, during their Golden Jubilee years in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Bernd Stephan joined SKF in 1994 and has almost fifteen years’ experience of leading business units within both SKF’s industrial and automotive businesses. Most recently, he was Director of the Group’s renewable energy business unit. He is also very experienced in engineering, product and manufacturing process development. Bernd is a German national and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Essen.
