Today, SKF in India has consolidated its leadership position by expanding its manufacturing footprint in Pune, Bengaluru, Mysore, Haridwar and Ahmedabad.

SKF’s fundamental strength is the ability to continuously develop new technologies – then use them to create products that offer competitive advantages to our customers. We achieve this by combining hands-on experience in over 40 industries with our knowledge across the SKF technology platforms: bearings and units, seals, mechatronics, services and lubrication systems.

Readying the ground force for Make in India: SKF’s flagship Skill development program

SKF India’ s flagship CSR program - YES:Youth Empowerment at SKF is working towards preparing the next generation of skilled automotive technicians for the Automotive Sector. With a target of readying 5000 skilled technicians in the next 5 years, SKF will contribute towards making the vision of Skill India a reality. The first centre is already operational in Pune and the second centre in Bengaluru is expected to be fully operational by 2016.

SKF is at the forefront of innovation with new product development and the Indian Market, which demands customized products and solution offers significant opportunities. SKF India is focused towards bringing in new customized offerings and technologies for the Indian market.

Commuter Train
Public and mass transport is a key area that will play a pivotal role in development. The government’s focus on improving the safety and efficiency in rail and road network has presented SKF with new opportunities. SKF’s Class E TBUs developed for the Indian Railways, will be locally manufactured and supplied from SKF’s Ahmedabad factory. The Ahmedabad factory is now certified by AAR (Association of American Rail Road). This breakthrough is an important step toward serving the freight segment of Indian Railways and establish SKF India’s local manufacturing capabilities for the industry. In addition, SKF is also gearing up to bringing in the Remote Condition Monitoring for the Indian Railways. SKF’s proven condition monitoring solutions are successfully running in leading railway transport systems across the world.

With rapid urbanization, the demand for electricity in the country has been growing steadily and it opens avenues for smarter and cleaner energy – wind and solar. SKF’s Ahmedabad factory has now localized slewing bearings, cylindrical roller and spherical roller bearings that cater to various critical wind turbine applications. SKF is currently partnering with leading wind turbine and gearbox manufacturers in the country. SKF also provides services for windfarm operations and maintenance through remote diagnostics and condition monitoring, leading to higher efficiencies

The industrial sector, being closely associated with the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors is of strategic importance to India’s economy. The growth in the sector is driven by many core segments such as infrastructure, energy, metals, mining and cement among others. The emphasis on infrastructure development and reforms on core sectors have created encouraging outlook for the long term for manufacturers. SKF GTCI: A conduit to bring global knowledge for local customers

SKF has invested in a Global Technical Centre in Bengaluru that includes a Global Testing Centre, both of which are located in Bengaluru. The centre reinforces SKF’s ambition to be closer to its customers, and to better fulfil customers’ needs. Expertise ranges from technology and product/process development to engineering and testing.

Creating a favorable business climate

The government has clearly set its agenda towards long term reforms of the business climate and has announced encouraging initiatives on the governance front. The government has moved away from sectoral SOPs and has focused on critical macro points such as transparency, ease of doing business and social welfare. Steps taken towards creating a transparent model of governance and project clearances, setting a direction for GAAR is a clear and positive message to the investors towards ease of doing business. In the mid to long term the unified tax regime under GST will be further beneficial to creating favorable business environment.

SKF has steadily invested into India and from 2 manufacturing plants in Pune and Bengaluru till early 2000s, SKF has expanded to 6 manufacturing facilities spread across the country, bringing key products and tecnologies to support the core product line of bearings. Today, SKF manufactures Bearings, Seals, Lubrication systems and offers a wide range of Services to over 40 segments in the automotive and industrial sectors of India.

Established in 2009, in Pune, SKF Solution Factory is where people and technology come together to create greater asset performance. Solution factory combines SKF’s knowledge and services to design, create and deliver custom solutions to even your toughest productivity challenges. SKF has also opened two satellite solution factories in Gurgaon and Jamshedpur respectively.
