The permissible operating temperature for ball bearing units is, depending on unit variant, mainly limited by:
the housing material
- The permissible operating temperature for housings made of composite is –30 to +120 °C (–20 to +250 °F). Other housing materials do not limit the permissible operating temperature of the unit.
- the PA66 cage (→ Cages)
- The permissible operating temperature for NBR seals is –40 to +100 °C (–40 to +210 °F). Temperatures up to 120 °C (250 °F) can be tolerated for brief periods.
- Temperature limits for the greases used in insert bearing are provided in table 1. Temperature limits for other SKF greases are provided under Selecting a suitable SKF grease.
- When using lubricants not supplied by SKF, the temperature limits should be evaluated according to the SKF traffic light concept.
For high temperature applications with operating temperatures > 120 °C (250 °F) and ≤ 350 °C (660 °F), refer to Insert bearings and ball bearing units for high temperature applications.
