“I have worked at four other companies in my career. They were all good places but SKF stands out.”
Susan - Sales & Marketing
Susan is the Director of SKF’s Off Highway and Midwest Competency Centre in Elgin, Illinois. Tell us about your current job?
"I am responsible for the management of a sales channel targeting OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers in the Off Highway segment. This includes sales, application engineering and customer service. Our customers include a number of global key accounts in this field. It is my responsibility to ensure that we are developing the business in line with divisional strategies and that we are creating new and profitable business opportunities for SKF in this market. The most satisfying aspect of my role is seeing my teams really stretch themselves to achieve a key business goal – making the sale is also a nice feeling!"
And your SKF career previous to this?
"I started in the Industrial Division segment organisation developing by-wire solutions for the Off Highway market. These four years were spent partly in the USA and partly in Germany. On my return to the USA, I took a position in the local sales organisation, supporting our controlling function – a role that allowed me to increase my knowledge and competence within financial systems. I then moved into the Off Highway team as business manager and short after I took over responsibility for the sales channel."
How does teamwork express itself within your role?
"I am part of a group that applies a ‘team selling concept’. This means we have dedicated people that serve a customer. Our sales, application engineering and customer service people are part of this team, and together with the extended members of the group - platform support resources, global account managers, product development etc - we work together to achieve our goals. For me, this team approach sums up what SKF is about and what has made SKF the world leader it is today – knowledge sharing to deliver real benefits, innovative solutions and ultimately, customer satisfaction."
Would you recommend SKF as an employer?
"Absolutely. I have worked at four other companies in my career. They were all good places but SKF stands out. One reason for this is that at SKF, I have always felt empowered to move the business forward in a way that I believe is best. I also feel that I’ve had the full support of the organisation and my management team when striving to do that. In addition to this, personally, I’ve had many great opportunities to develop my competencies and career. This is something I feel is my individual responsibility but at the same time, SKF has provided a working environment, structure and culture that’s allowed me to keep developing and will continue to do so."
