A survivor's guide to shaft and machine orbits

Orbit plot
A popular way to measure machine vibration is to use an accelerometer but in journal / plain / sleeve / static /hydro-dynamic bearings an accelerometer only tells half the story of how a shaft is behaving. The popular way to measure these types of bearing is to measure the shaft centre line and the shaft orbit using eddy current probes. This session provides a very simple introduction to their use.
