Stainless steel plummer block housings
Stainless steel plummer block housings are used in Y-unit series listed in table 1. The units incorporate stainless steel Y-bearings filled with a food-grade grease.
The housings cannot be ordered as separate products.
Stainless steel plummer block housings are made of cast austenitic stainless steel (AISI 300 series). They are designed for Y-bearing plummer block units in heavy-duty applications to resist a wide range of chemicals and other treatments used during washdown processes of food and beverage applications (table 2
). Compared to composite housings for SKF Food Line, stainless steel housings offers an even higher level of resistance to aggressive washdown chemicals. Stainless steel plummer block Y-bearing units are particularly well-suited for applications with high speeds, heavy loads and where reliability and minimal maintenance are key factors.
Stainless steel plummer block housings have a plugged threaded hole to accommodate a relubrication feature, when relubrication is required. They are available with three different designs:
SYWR .. Y series (fig. 1)
→ cast oblong bolt holes
SYFWR .. Y series (short base, fig. 2)
→ threaded holes in the support base
SYFWR .. YZ series
→ similar to SYFWR .. Y series, but with inch threaded holes in the support base
To protect the bearing arrangement at the end of a shaft, and to avoid the possibility of an accident caused by an exposed shaft end, stainless steel Y-bearing plummer block units are able to accommodate ECW series end covers (fig. 3
). End covers are accessories and must be ordered separately. The designations together with the distance A5
that the end cover protrudes from the housing (fig. 4
) are listed in the product table

End covers are made of polypropylene (PP), have good resistance to most chemicals and can withstand operating temperatures up to 100 °C (210 °F). They are mounted by snapping them into the recess of the housing.
