“The most challenging and fulfilling part of my job is trying to get the best from every individual in my team.”
Michael - Manufacturing
As a Channel Manager at the roller factory in Schweinfurt, Germany, Michael leads a team of around 100. His role involves ensuring efficient and high quality production to safeguard cost and service levels so that SKF ultimately remains the preferred supplier for the customers.
"The most challenging part of my job is trying to get the best from every individual in my team. Since joining SKF as a graduate in 2008, I have completed the German Management Trainee Program – a great start to my professional career – and I have been offered the opportunity to observe the company’s work across many sites and departments. During my first three years, I was mentored by a senior colleague and now I have a role that involves high levels of personnel and budget responsibility."
And after three years within the company, how would you describe SKF’s culture?
"SKF is an organisation that encourages and supports feedback. In the time I’ve been here, I have had first hand experience that opportunities to develop are there for the taking. I also enjoy the fact that teamwork and a spirit of cooperation exist on a local and global level."
As regards the future, Michael sees a clear path before him.
"I have no doubt that as my career at SKF progresses, there will be other great opportunities to contribute and develop within other disciplines and potentially, other countries. This global structure was one of the reasons I was attracted to SKF as an employer. I’m very keen to ensure that my career and my efforts will make a difference – and at SKF, the freedom to do this is very much in my hands."
