Wind Energy

The cumulative installed global wind energy capacity grew from 11,000 MW in 1999 to roughly 121,000 MW in 2008. By the year 2012 it is estimated that this figure will be close to 280,000 MW.

SKF is committed to drive the design and development of bearings, sealing and lubrication systems that enable more cost-effective wind energy generation. Today's turbines are installed in harsh, remote environments and the wind farms of the future will most likely have to face even tougher conditions. Working together with original equipment manufacturers and operators, SKF engineers provide dedicated solutions that optimize the reliability and performance of both new and existing wind turbine designs. These solutions also help reduce maintenance costs per every kWh produced.

SKF Solution Focus:  Nautilus bearing from SKF

Engineered to optimize turbine performance, the Nautilus double row tapered roller bearing from SKF does the work of two bearings.  Its compact design reduces weight, energy loss and maintenance to improve wind turbine reliability.
