Over the years SKF has developed a number of Grease Testing Machines to deepen the understanding of lubrication theory and build confidence that SKF is not only a leading bearing supplier, but also a main supplier of bearing greases. The initial development of the various machines was undertaken by SKF in Gothenburg and Schweinfurt about 40 years ago. Further development was then done in a close cooperation with SKF ERC, the SKF Engineering & Research Centre near Utrecht in The Netherlands. From 1983, SKF Maintenance Products in The Netherlands was responsible for the sales of these machines because of its increasing activities in the sales of lubricants. Since 1994 SKF Quality Technology Centre QTC in Steyr, Austria, took over the responsibility for development, manufacturing and sales for the grease testing machines from SKF Maintenance Products. The following grease testing equipments are in the product programme: - The SKF BeQuiet+: grease testing machine to assess the grease noise in rolling bearings.
- The SKF ROF & R0F+: grease testing machines to assess the grease performance at high temperatures and speeds.
- The SKF RHF 1: grease testing machine to assess the grease performance at high temperatures and highest speeds.
- The SKF EMCOR: grease testing machine to assess the corrosion inhibiting properties of greases.
The SKF EMCOR is standardized in DIN 51802, ISO 11007 and IP 220 for the standard method using distilled water. - The SKF V2F: grease testing machine to assess the mechanical stability of greases necessary to provide resistance to leakage under vibration conditions. The SKF V2F is standardised in SS 3653: Railways - Rolling bearings for axle boxes - Test of the mechanical stability of lubricating greases.
- The SKF R2F: grease testing equipment for mechanical-dynamic behaviour of greases under various loads, speed and temperatures.
