SKF Logistics Services won "Logistics Project of the Year Award" together with Metso Minerals
On February 19, 2009, the "Logistics Project of the Year Award 2009" was given to SKF Logistics Services in front of an audience of 1000 professionals, all active in the Belgian Transport and Logistics sector
The award recognized SKF's contribution in helping Metso Minerals achieve their business goals and vision: To optimize logistics flows in Europe, and support the distribution of their global range of wear and spare parts worldwide.
SKF Logistics Services' ability to offer global support and seamless IT integration were key to achieving Metso's goals. In addition, a pan-European vision and logistics network; the ability of handling of parts weighing up to 8 tons; advanced quality monitoring based on ambitious KPI targets; and state-of-the-art warehouse operations with extended operating hours (24/7), were all strong capabilities that made this a winning project.
The implementation was done under very high time pressure, with only six months between the signing of the contract and the actual start up of operations.
As a result, Metso Minerals has now consolidated its inventories in the SKF dedicated Distribution Center in Tongeren, Belgium. Their business core functions such as order handling, inventory planning and technical support have been centralized, direct deliveries from stock to the end customer have increased and inter-facility transportation has been reduced.
This achievement serves to reinforce the successful long-term partnership between SKF and its global key account, Metso. |
