Condition monitoring services

SKF Reliability Systems is the largest condition based maintenance consultancy and service company in the UK. On a global scale, SKF is a leading manufacturer of vibration analysis products, providing unparalleled know-how in plant condition monitoring.

Condition based maintenance (CBM or predictive maintenance) is an effective strategy to defend against the risks of unplanned equipment failures. The success of this strategy is entirely dependant upon a professionally run condition monitoring programme. Prevention of catastrophic failures will avoid production output losses, as well as reducing the direct and indirect costs of unplanned downtime. An effective condition monitoring programme will therefore reduce overall maintenance costs, improve safety, increase plant availability, and enhance product quality.

Condition monitoring can assess machine condition to determine when maintenance should be performed. By periodically monitoring equipment operating parameters, using techniques such as vibration analysis, oil analysis and thermography, in combination with process data, problems associated with specific machines can be detected, and predicted early enough to allow planned repair, instead of breakdown maintenance.

The principles of condition monitoring often appear to be straight forward enough, but the technology is too often misunderstood or badly applied. A combination of measurement parameters appropriate to the machine operating conditions and failure characteristics will be required to gain good diagnostic information.

Accurate analysis of the data and effective recommendations for corrective actions must be based on sound engineering judgement and good plant experience. SKF Reliability Systems offers all the predictive techniques and machine design know-how to ensure the most effective decisions are made.

Service agreements
SKF Reliability Systems provides a full range of on-site services. These include full service agreements, where we provide all the staff (part-time or full-time) and condition monitoring tools, implement and carry out the daily work. We also offer supervisory service agreements, where we can support and train your own staff to improve the effectiveness of your on-site programme. Call-off specialist trouble shooting services are also available on request.

SKF system platforms
SKF Reliability Systems can implement and support the effective use of on-line and portable condition monitoring systems, for rotary and reciprocating plant. We are also a leading provider of hand-held plant inspection systems, replacing clipboard methods for watchkeeping rounds, allowing all plant information to be shared on one software system.

SKF software systems include the highly successful PRISM4 platform, as well as the leading edge Machine Analyst technology. When used together with the revolutionary SKF aptitude decision support software, we also provide full EAM/CMMS integration. SKF condition monitoring systems provide a fully integrated platform, with a consistent upgrade path to ensure machine diagnostic history is maintained.

Performance guaranteed
SKF Reliability Systems staff undergo intensive training and utilise auditable and verifiable quality work instructions to ensure quality assurance at all times.

SKF Reliability Systems also offer condition monitoring services as an integral part of Proactive Reliability Maintenance (PRM) agreements, under which SKF Reliability Systems staff drive the continuous improvement activity on-site to eliminate repetitive failures and maximise plant efficiency.
