Six Sigma at SKF

Six Sigma History

Outside SKF
It all started at Motorola in the late 1970's when management decided to do something about the company's poor product quality and associated cost implications. They learned new ways of doing things that would have great impact on quality and cost.

In the 1980's the appropriate philosophy and tools were developed and when Motorola received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1988, the Six Sigma concept was presented publicly. By the late 1990's a large number of companies had adopted Six Sigma, which has today spread to corporations outside the USA.

Six Sigma At SKF
SKF first adopted Six Sigma at MRC, then at Chicago Rawhide, Eurotrade and SKF India. The Automotive Division was the first division to introduce Six Sigma in 2003 and later that year SKF decided to apply Six Sigma as a unified approach for the entire Group.
