Data protection principles

We have implemented this Data Protection Policy (“Policy”) to set out how SKF Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (“SKF”) collect, store and handle personal data of individuals in accordance with the personal data protection laws of Singapore.

We are committed to ensure that your personal data is protected and not misused. In line with our commitment, we have adopted the following privacy principles:

(a) We will only process (e.g. collect, use, disclose, store, transfer)
your personal data for the purposes as set out in this Policy;
(b) No personal data will be used or disclosed for any unethical reasons;
(c) We allow access and correction of your personal data where possible (charges allowed under the laws may apply);
(d) All personal data will be permanently destroyed once it is no longer relevant; and
(e) We will implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal data. 


Generally, SKF may process your personal data such as:

(a) Name, identification supporting documents (including National Registration Identification Card number, foreign identification number and passport number), telephone numbers, address or email address, name cards, credit card details or automatic teller machine card details, signatures, images, vehicle number plates or any other information provided by you, 

(b) Information that relates to your visit or use of SKF websites and services, which includes IP addresses, cookies, browsing history,
(c) Information that relates to your transaction with SKF, which includes invoices, purchased items, product serial numbers, correspondences.

SKF may collect your personal data in many ways, including:

(a) Directly from you when you communicate with us (for example when you enquire about our products or services, when you purchase our products or when you visit our office for meetings.
(b) Consequently when we provide you with our products or services; or
(c) From third parties we deal with who are connected with you and from such other sources where you have given your consent for the disclosure of information relating to you, and/or where otherwise lawfully permitted.

By providing your personal data to us for the purposes indicated in this Policy, you are consenting to our collection, use, access, transfer, storage and processing of your personal data. If you do not consent to the collection and/or processing by SKF of your personal data, we may not be able to provide you with our products or services or attend to any of your request. Please see section “Consequences” for more details.

Your personal data may be processed for the following purposes (where relevant):

(a) To respond to your queries or requests;
(b) To process payments for purchase of SKF products or services;
(c) To update you on any changes to SKF’s policies, terms and conditions and any other matters necessary or relevant to products and services provided to you;
(d) To monitor or improve SKF’s products or services provided to you;
(e) To perform statistical analyses  of user behavior (for example,  by analyzing the website usage data gathered passively from all users) in order to measure relative consumer interest in the various areas of our website;
(f)  To enable third parties to provide services to you on behalf of SKF;
(g) For verification of identities to allow provision of necessary services;
(h) To pass on your personal data to companies that buy part of or over SKF;
(i)  To deter, detect and investigate crime (e.g. theft, fraud, corruption etc.); and
(j)  For any other purpose which is directly or indirectly related to SKF’s business, which purpose will be notified to you from time to time if SKF is to use your personal data for such other purpose.

Types of interaction

In addition to the General Data Protection Policy set out above, we may also process your personal data for other purposes.

Customer: Typically, if you purchase SKF’s products, you would have voluntarily provided us your personal data for warranty purposes. In additional, SKF may process your personal data for purposes including but not limited to the following:

(a) To facilitate product warranties;
(b) To provide product related updates and services;
(c) To facilitate product recalls;
(d) To investigate or settle any disputes or claims relating to product or warranty;
(e) For customer satisfaction surveys; and
(f) For profiling and analyzing of product popularity and stability.


Supplier, Contractor or Business Partner: As a supplier, contractor or business partner of SKF, your personal data (including those provided by your company) is generally processed to facilitate commercial transactions and other business related activities between your company and SKF. In addition, SKF may conduct the following involving you or any other employee of your company for the following purposes:

(a) For ethical and environmental audit purposes (e.g. ensure workers are paid appropriately, non-excessive working hours);
(b) Process purchase  orders,  invoices,  quotations  and  any  other  correspondences  and documents necessary for audit and performance of contract involving your company;
(c) Background checks, credit standing or ascertaining conflict of interests;
(d) For security purposes (deter, detect and investigate crimes (e.g. fraud, corruption); and
(e) To facilitate compliance with legal obligations and the law. 


Visitors to SKF Premise or Events: As a visitor to SKF premises or invitee of SKF’s events, whether you are an invited guest, a walk-in guest, delivery personnel, or business customer, your personal data (e.g. identification card details, business cards, images, contact numbers and emails) may be processed by SKF for the following purposes:

(a) For security purposes to deter, detect and investigate crimes; and
(b) For corporate communication purposes such as newsletter and publication of highlights of events in internal or external write-ups.

Access and update of personal data

As long as your personal data is processed or being processed by SKF, you have a right under the law to access, update and / or correct your personal data kept by SKF. For access request, please note that SKF may impose a fee permitted by law, which will be communicated to you before your request is processed. No fees will be charged should you wish to update and / or correct your personal data. Any request for data access or correction must be made in writing and addressed to our Data Protection Officer at the details below.

SKF will take necessary actions to attend to your request within 21 days unless:

(a) Information provided by you is incomplete or insufficient to facilitate such request;
(b) Expense of providing access is disproportionate to your interests;
(c) Access would disclose confidential commercial information;
(d) Other individual’s personal data is likely to be revealed;
(e) Access would constitute a violation of a court order;
(f)  Access is regulated by another law; or
(g) SKF is legally allowed to reject your request.

Provision or request of personal data on behalf of others
If you wish to provide or request personal data of another individual to or from SKF, you must present to SKF consent that you have already obtained from that individual and evidence that you have notified him of the purpose before providing or requesting the personal data.

SKF may process your own personal data for verification purposes, and may conduct verification checks with the individual concerned.
Security policy
In SKF, we endeavor to employ all reasonable means to protect your personal data. For personal data in physical form (e.g. paper documents), we limit the access to the personal data to employees strictly on “need to know” basis and all physical personal data will be kept secured from unauthorized access (e.g. locked cabinets).

For online and other Information Technology related security, there will be authentication procedures in place, the use of firewalls and storing in secured databases.
Withdrawal of consent

You can request to stop receiving communication or services from SKF, or any other kind of processing (e.g. collect, use, disclose, store and transfer) by giving SKF a written notice clearly signifying your request.

Such withdrawals of consent can be:

(a) Partial - e.g. individual requests that SKF stop processing a mobile number, but not email; or

(b) Complete - e.g. an individual requests that SKF stop processing all personal data. Notwithstanding the withdrawal of your consent, we may keep your personal data and process your personal data in circumstances which are permitted by law and / or as required under our contractual obligations.

Consequences

In the event you do not wish to consent to the processing of your personal data or wish to withdraw your consent, please note that SKF may not be able to (where relevant):


(a) Respond to your requests/queries;
(b) Sell you any products or services;
(c) Provide updates on any changes or notify matters necessary or relevant to the products or services provided to you;
(d) Provide warranty related services;
(e) Start or continue business and commercial activities with you and/or your company (which may result in breaches of existing contracts); and
(f)  Provide you details of SKF events or allow you to enter SKF premises or attend any SKF’s events.

In addition, in the event that SKF is no longer permitted to process your personal data and as a result is unable to perform certain obligations and/or suffers any loss, damage, cost or expense, SKF may pursue legal recourse against you or your company (where applicable) at SKF’s sole discretion e.g. breach of contract.

Transfer of personal data overseas
SKF may transfer your personal data to any entity within SKF Group or to distributors involved in the provision of our products or services which are located in overseas or if you are located in overseas and require our products or services.

For suppliers, contractors and companies having commercial relationships with SKF, your personal data may be shared with SKF Group entities for the purpose of business activities to facilitate or conclude commercial activities involving SKF.

For participation in SKF events, your personal data (e.g. video recordings, photographs) may be transferred to SKF entities overseas to promote or publicize such events.

For any requests by you, if the specific SKF entity you approached requires assistance from other entities, your personal data may be transferred to the entity assisting SKF.
Consent

If you are not accessing to this Policy through SKF’s website, you may be required to consent to our use of your personal data by signing off on this Policy. Upon signing this Policy, you are acknowledging that you have read and understood all the contents of this Policy in relation to the processing of your personal data provided to SKF or obtained by SKF as a result of provision of any products or services to you. You further consent to the processing of your personal data for the purposes as stated in this Policy and any other related purposes which will be communicated to you through updates to this Policy.


SKF reserve the right to modify, update and/or amend this Policy from time to time and the updated version shall apply and supersede any and all previous versions. Please check SKF’s website or information on our updated practices.

For access to or update of personal data, you are required to complete an access or update form which will be provided once we received a written notification of your request. Please note that access or update requests will be completed within 21 days provided that all necessary information is in order and complete. We will inform you by a notice in writing should we require additional time to attend to your request.
