Meet the World 2013
The SKF Meet the World football tournaments are held in 20 countries where SKF has a presence. The purpose is to create global meeting points for youngsters regardless of gender, social background, age, culture or religion. The winning teams from each country participates in the Gothia Cup, the world’s largest and most international youth football tournament held in Gothenburg.
Most of the Meet the World teams qualified past the group stage. Several made both the quarter- and semi-finals. SKF Lativa Supernova (B11) from Latvia and the Vancouver Whitecaps (G17) from Canada won in their respective groups and went on to win gold medals. ASIOP Apacint from Indonesia and NK Krško from Slovenia met in the group final for 14-year-old boys. NK Krško was the stronger team and took gold, while ASIOP Apacint took the silver medal. The teams celebrated their victories with their fans before taking an open bus ride through the streets of Gothenburg, where people clapped and cheered.
The team TEUTA (B15) won the tournament in Durres, both players and coaches are very excited to go to Gothia Cup and to travel to Gothenburg. One guy of the winning team said: "I want to have good result in Gothia Cup"
One of the coaches for the Brazilian team Cajamar FC (B14) said after the finals: "We are very glad for this achievement and that we will travel to Sweden soon. The boys told me they never thought it would happen in their lives."
The team PFC “Levski 1914 (B15) won the tournament in Sopot, both players and coaches are very excited to go to Gothia Cup and to travel to Gothenburg.
The Canadian team will be the girls team from Vancouver Whitecaps youth section (G17).
The Meet the World tournament in China was held during May in Beijing. 20 Hope School teams from 16 provinces with more than 300 players attended. China will participate with two teams: Henan Lin Ying Bei Jie School Team (G12) and Liaoning Ning Yuan Center School Team (B12).
One of the players in the FK Ricany (B15) says: “I am looking forward to the tournament as the best thing from the entire holiday season. Gothia Cup is a huge football event, it will be a great experience and we are looking forward to the departure.”
One of the players in FC Flora (B12) says: winning the local SKF cup has given us a chance to compete in Gothia Cup this year. This has improved my skills significantly and I have a feeling that we are going to win the Gothia Cup tournament.
SKF France has chosen to support the Kim Källström trophy through an exclusive partnership with Special Olympics France (SOF). Its mission is to allow disabled young people to accomplish themselves thanks to sport. At the end of the tournament in France, the IMPRO Membrey team stood proudly as the winners.
One of the players in the FC Kickers Wuerzburg (B11) is visiting Sweden for the first time, before the trip he said: “I hope to meet a lot of new people, to play interesting football matches against other nations and enjoy the whole atmosphere.”
The team from SKF Sports Academy Pune was selected from a pool of 30 players of age group 11 to 16 to be a part in Meet the World.
SKF Indonesia has arranged the tournaments for four years. This year 16 teams played 240 games before the final where over at Ciracas stadium, East Jakarta. It was ASIOP Apacinti (B12), who proved themselves as winners.
The team SK Super Nova (B11) won the tournament in Staicele, both players and coaches are very excited to go to Gothia Cup and to travel to Gothenburg.
In Lithuania, SKF arranged Meet the World for the second time. The tournament took place in May and ten junior teams from seven countries participated. The team Panevėžio FA from Panavėžys (B15) city won the tournament.
The winners, ZA'BA FC (G14), felt honored for the opportunity given to participate in this world-class event and will find and make new friends from various countries as many as possible during the tournament.
One of the players in Fuerzas Basicas de Puebla (B12) imagines Gothia Cup to be like the World Cup, but for kids. For him, this is the first time he’ll travel by plane and the first time out of Mexico.
For the last four years, SKF Portugal has been sponsoring the local tournament IberCup, where the best qualified Portuguese female team wins the Meet the World prize and goes to Gothia Cup. For many girls, this a unique opportunity to know other countries and cultures. This year, CAC da Pontinha (G17) reclaimed the first place, and 15 new girls, will travel to Sweden.
The winners in Romania, ASC May Day Sport (B12) has played together since 2005. They have created a very close group, a strong friendship and share many common activities also outside the football field.
This year the winning team is from the eastern part of Slovenia, a football club from Krško, named NK Krško (B14). The team is really excited and they are hardly waiting for the Gothia Cup to start. For the kids this is a real adventure, both to travel and to join a worldwide tournament.
In Russia, eight teams from Moscow, Noginsk, Ivanovi, Samara and Tolyatti participated in the Meet the World tournament. The girls team Znamya (G17) from Samara won the tournament.
In Zambia, the Chilulu Girls (G17) won on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the regulation time in the final of the tournament in Kitwe.
