SKF will show a series of innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and performance at the InnoTrans Fair in Berlin this September, including a new class of compact tapered roller bearing for freight with a 45-ton operational axle load.
Gothenburg, Sweden, 8 August 2014: SKF will be demonstrating its latest solutions for rail that enhance efficiency and performance, at the InnoTrans fair in Berlin from 23th-26th September. Included will be the new class of heavy haul compact tapered roller bearing units (CTBU) from SKF, the world’s first freight bearing rated to 45 tons for operational axle load.
The new CTBU enables increased weight to be carried in freight cars designed for heavy hauls, enabling rail operators to increase profitability by hauling more product with the same train length. “The SKF CTBU is the only heavy haul bearing rated to 45 ton axle load on the market,” says Mikael Rydstrom, Global Business Development Manager, Railway and Off Highway Business Unit “This represents a transportation capacity increase from existing solutions of up to 10 tons, allowing customers to increase transported weight of product in existing or new wagon fleets. The new solution was developed as a direct result of customer requests and meets the needs of railway operators who are trending towards carrying heavier loads worldwide.”
Also on display at InnoTrans will be a new generation of tapered roller bearing units for EMU/DMU and passenger cars, which offer extended bearing service life and reduce the risk of bearing fatigue failures. This next generation bearing unit for 160-250km/h trains will be a valuable tool that helps many OEMs and end users to increase safety and match bearing maintenance with wheelset maintenance intervals.
SKF will also be demonstrating monitoring solutions that maximise efficiency in rail applications, including the SKF Microlog handheld analyser tool for various railway applications, and the SKF Multilog On-line System IMx-B – the first wireless full bogie subsystem monitoring solution on the market, capable of online monitoring of wheelset bearings as well as drive system bearings. There will also be on-board and railside lubrication systems on show and a ‘technology preview’ of the SKF InsightTM for freight and passenger rail applications.
SKF continues to increase its Lubrication Systems capabilities to provide customized solutions for the rail industry. With the acquisition of the Lincoln brand in 2010, SKF now offers a complete portfolio of products for wear and noise reduction applications.
SKF’s product range at InnoTrans will include wheel flange lubrication systems to reduce wheel wear and wayside lubrication systems to reduce wear on the gauge face. Suitable for railroad, metro and tramway applications, both systems minimize rail wear and noise emission, including curve squealing.
SKF has recently added new products and services for rail operators to its BeyondZero portfolio, a series of solutions that improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support more environmentally friendly energy production. These are the SKF Low Weight Railway End Cap, the SKF Low Friction Railway Bearing Seal, and SKF railway wheelset bearing remanufacturing services.
Visitors to InnoTrans will find SKF in Hall 22a, booth 606.
