Chemical use and legislative compliance
SKF has made it clear that all hazardous substances as listed in the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List (GADSL), REACH substances of high concern and SIN list, with a concentration limit of 0,1 % (weight), shall not be used in SKF products. In fact, the SKF's Design for Environment concept is process where we integrate environmental key issues such as product recyclability, legislative requirements, bio-biodegradability into our new product design and development.
How do we address chemical use?
Solvent and VOC
Solvent use - 50% reduction in absolute term by 2012 (compared to 2007's level)
After successfully achieving previous solvent use reduction target of 25% in 2007 compared to 2002 level, SKF sets a new target, aimed at 50% reduction in absolute term by 2012 (compared to 2007's level).
Even though substantial progress has been made (about 700 tonnes reduction from 2007) the use of VOC’s in 2012 was 966 tonnes, meaning only a 40% reduction was materialized. The 50% reduction target has now been extended to 2014.
