Composite flanged housings for SKF Food Line are used in Y-unit series listed in:

The units incorporate stainless steel Y-bearings or Y-bearings with zinc-coated rings, either filled with a food-grade grease.

Composite flanged housings for SKF Food Line are made of a leightweight thermoplastic composite material. They are designed for Y-bearing flanged units that need to resist a wide range of chemicals and other treatments used during washdown processes of food and beverage applications (table 4).
Composite flanged housings for SKF Food Line have no relubrication feature as standard and are available in five different designs:
  • FYWK .. Y series (fig. 1)
    → square flange
    → "moulded in" steel coil reinforcement
    → four round bolt holes
  • FYWK .. L series
    → similar to FYWK .. Y series, but of massive design
  • FYTWK .. Y series (fig. 2)
    → oval flange
    → "moulded in" steel coil reinforcement
    → two round bolt holes
  • FYTWK .. L series
    → similar to FYTWK .. Y series, but of massive design
  • FYAWK .. L series (fig. 3)
    → 3-bolt bracket flange
    → massive design
    → four round bolt holes

The bolt holes of all housing designs are reinforced with austenitic stainless steel inserts.

End covers

To protect the bearing arrangement at the end of a shaft, and to avoid the possibility of an accident caused by an exposed shaft end, depending on their design composite flanged housings for SKF Food Line are able to accommodate one of the following end cover designs:

  • FYWK .. Y and FYTWK .. Y series
    → ECW end cover (fig. 4)
    The end cover has an optional drainage hole that can be easily opened by the user as required.
  • FYWK .. L, FYTWK .. L and FYAWK .. L series
    → ECL end cover (fig. 5)
End covers are accessories and must be ordered separately. The designations together with the distance A5 that the end cover protrudes from the housing (fig. 6, fig. 7) are listed in the relevant product tables:

End covers are made of polypropylene (PP), have good resistance to most chemicals and can withstand operating temperatures up to 100 °C (210 °F). They are mounted by snapping them into the recess of the housing.
