SKF Dynamic Motor Analyzer - EXP4000These instruments conduct fully remote monitoring from Motor Control Cabinets (MCCs). They are portable, low-voltage battery-operated units designed for rugged use in tight, adverse environments.
This in-service motor analyzer takes the next step in providing complete P/PM programmes. It provides root cause analysis through the separation of mechanical and electrical issues. The EXP4000 was designed to pinpoint challenges (voltage source, VFD, motor, load) your rotating machinery faces. This self-contained portable instrument is computer driven with proven engineering, allowing all testing to be accomplished directly from the MCC or from the SKF EP connection.
The EXP4000 performs seven major functions for predictive maintenance programmes. It identifies possible power circuit problems that degrade motor health, examines overall motor power conditions, monitors the load and observes motor performance plus estimating energy savings. It is programmed to supply information on:
- Voltage level
- Voltage balance
- Harmonic and total distortion
- Rotor cage condition
- Motor efficiency
- Effective service factor
- Operating condition
Once testing is complete, you can save and store results for each individual motor. This type of documentation is critical for any predictive maintenance programme. It allows the recalling of previous information for true trending capabilities. With the EXP4000, collect, store, recall and manage test results using standard MS Access relational database file formats. You can generate reports quickly and easily through the main print console, allowing operators visual confirmation of motor integrity.
Survey plant-wide motor efficiency with the EXP4000 and determine load mismatches, oscillating load, and transient peak energy. These on-line capabilities allow accurate assessment of operating load conditions over time. Results are immediate and show operating efficiencies, allowing the operator to determine the true cost of wasted energy.
- Power quality: Identifies non-optimal power quality problems that cause additional undue stress to the motor. The voltage level, voltage balance, harmonic distortion, total distortion, power and harmonics test flag frequent problems. This can consist of wrong settings on a supply transformer's taps, poorly distributed single-phase loads, overloading (saturating) supply transformers, excessive VFDs on low voltage busses, excessive non-harmonic frequencies on a VFD, missing line-inductors on VFD applications and missing or open power factor correction capacitors.
- Machine performance: This group of tests evaluates the present operation of the motor, identifying stressful operation and its source. It looks at effective service factor, load, operation condition, efficiency, and calculates payback period. Common problems found in this area include thermal overloading of the motor, recognizing the deterioration of the machine among other items that are directly related to the motor's health and the energy waster in its inefficiencies.
- Current: This set of tests identifies problems within the entire machine system. Tests include over-current and current unbalance. These tests look at the health of the entire system and describe a problem within this system as it is related to current. This domain identifies problems; however, the root cause may not be apparent.
- Spectrum: This domain has the rotor bar test along with the V/I spectrum, demodulated spectrum, and harmonics. This domain shows the current and voltage relationships with regard to frequency. It will electrically find saturation problems, broken rotor bars, excessive VFD drives on low voltage busses and it can verify mechanical problems.
- Torque: The torque domain is a highly important breakthrough for SKF. These tests, torque ripple and torque spectrum, enable the user to find numerous problems quickly and accurately. This domain specializes in diagnosing mechanical issues, shows transient overloading, and finds mechanical imbalances along with bearing problems and issues such as cavitation.
- Connections: This portion of the EXP4000 offers multiple additional tools, including phasor diagrams, three currents, three voltages, harmonic bar charts, instantaneous voltage, frequency, symmetrical components, and speed traces for dynamic VFD applications. Jointly, these tools assess bearing health.
- VFD monitoring (optional): SKF designed the EXP4000 as a comprehensive monitoring tool. Along with any three-phase induction motor and generator, they will also monitor the activities of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) applications and AC servo motors. For the first time, diagnosis of motor problems can occur even under the most demanding VFD operation. This optional VFD4000 software shows how frequency, speed, torque and voltage level vary with respect to time.
- Continuous monitoring: The EXP4000 uses SKF’s CM4000 continuous-monitoring software, which enables the user to monitor up to 41 data points in real time. This continuous data gathering capability improves discovery of intermittent problems with motors, such as electrical tripping. An operator can customize monitoring to collect real time data on whatever is deemed the most important to the operation. The EXP4000 can also act as a power analyzer to determine actual power quality.
The EXP4000 can perform a startup transient analysis with an integrated tool. The traces are the RMS currents and voltages of all three phases.
