Wet machining

In wet machining, both the tool and the workpiece must be supplied with the right quantity of coolant.

Heat is extracted and chips and swarf are removed at the same time. In the technical implementation of these circuits, Spandau pumpen have proven themselves to be invaluable in filter systems and coolant preparation systems. The lubricant circuit is displayed in the drawing below: The dirtied cooling lubricant runs from the machine tool into the dirt tank and is fed by a filter pump (dirt pump / lift pump e.g. Spandau pump model PSH, PMS) into the filter. The cleaned medium flows through the filter into the clean tank. A system pump (e.g. LMP, PSR, PS) feeds the cleaned cooling lubricant back to the machine tool.

Tools used in wet machining are cooled externally or internally, depending on the machining process and the material of the workpiece.

With externally cooled tools, pump delivery pressures up to about 20 bar are required, often with a high delivery rate. The opposite applies if internally cooled tools are used, for example with deep-hole drilling. Because of narrow cross-sections, higher pressures are required at low delivery rates.

The cooling fluid fed by the pump also carries away any swarf produced during the cutting process. The cooling lubricants used as the pumped medium are based on organic or inorganic oils. Oil/water emulsions (oil 4 to 10%, max. 15%) are used, as well as cooling und cutting oils of various viscosities.
