Integrated brake disc mount

Advanced brake rotor integration solution from SKF

Integrated brake disc mount image
Recent and growing demand for weight and noise reduction lead SKF to take a new look at the way in which brake rotors, drums and discs are attached to hub units. The result is a hub bearing unit, which integrates the brake disc with the flange of a hub bearing unit.

Performance possibilities

The integrated brake disc offers designers significant competitive advantages. Reductions in unsprung weight are possible, particularly when metal matrix composite (MMC) materials are employed for the drum's main carcass.

Very low levels of run-out for the complete bearing, hub and brake disc assembly can help minimize or even eliminating brake judder. Additionally, moving away from the conventional "top hat" design of disc to one mounted on a carrier, similar in concept to hose used in racing applications, offers interesting corner weight reduction possibilities.
