Stop-start starter

Better designs start with SKF

The attached to the engine block, stop-start starters have conventionally been used to start the engine at cold starts. Today's units also perform stop/start functions at red lights or traffic jams.

Designs have traditionally employed solenoid-type pinion linear motion to gear up to the engine flywheel. Newer designs feature a permanent connection to the crankshaft via a one-way-clutch mechanism, which further improves performance of the stop-start function.

Regardless design type, SKF bearings can help improve unit performance even more, through noise reduction and improved reliability.
