Timing System

As engine speeds increase, the performance of belts and chains decreases. Therefore many racing engines will have a gear train between the crank and cams. Each of the gears in the timing system should be supported by a bearing. These bearings are usually needle roller bearings or deep groove ball bearings. The aggressive operating conditions often require special bearing variants for robustness. Coatings can also allow a restriction of the oil flow to this part of the engine.
