2 channel data acquisition is a good way to quickly acquire route data and compare vibration data at the same time.

Collecting route data using two channels is a quick and easy way to speed up your data collection as well as analyzing a problem at the same time.  This will require you to set up the 2 channel points in the @ptitude Analyst software.  Then you can go to a machine, place your two transducers and collect two points, move your two sensors and collect two more points.  First you will need to identify which points that you would like to collect simultaneously.  You may want to collect a horizontal and vertical reading on a single bearing which is most common, or you can collect two horizontal points and then two vertical points then two axial points on a machine.  As you collect the points you can see both spectrums and compare data quickly between the two points.

How it is done:
The points must first be identified and speed must be identified as will as the frequency range, and lines of resolution. Once identified, you can set up the machine in SKF @ptitude Analyst, then right click on the machine and click on insert item and the
point info shown at left will be present on the screen. You will make sure that you have Microlog Analyzer for DAD type, then Vibration (2 channels) for Application, then your sensor type will be whatever you are using, typically Accelerometer, and then the units which you are using dependent on the vibration setup (fig. 1).  Once this is accepted, you will not be able to change it.  Accept that and the point set up will be present on the screen.  Enter the Name of the points, as well as a description you would like to use.  Then you can click on the Set up tab and set up your frequency range and point information (fig.2).

Now you can click on the two channel tab and set up the directions for the two channels you are using (fig.3).

Now take these points in put them in a route. This route can be uploaded to an AX or GX analyzer.  Once uploaded, you will need two transducers and two cords.  When you get to the machine you set up, you will place all of the transducers on the points that you set up and acquire the data.   Once collected, the data may be down loaded to the SKF @ptitude software for analysis.  Both vibration points will display under one set up point and can be analyzed together.  If you look at a spectrum for instance, both spectra will be present on a single plot.

Using this tool can save time performing on-site analysis and allow you to analyze multiple points simultaneously.  Although it is not recommended for all database measurement options, it is an effective way to look at multiple points simultaneously.  For more information on this and other SKF product information, please attend an SKF Microlog and @ptitude Analyst class.
