SKF timing belt kits now have QR codes for specific fitting instructions anytime and anywhere

2014 August 20, 12:00 Europe

The more a technician knows about fitting a part, the more efficient and professional the service will be. To help increase that knowledge, SKF has introduced QR codes on the packaging for its timing belt kits. The codes can be scanned using a smartphone or tablet to access a specific fitting guide. Each code links to an automated download containing all the necessary and up-to-date information for the respective SKF repair kit.

“We understand the challenges facing today’s technicians when undertaking repairs on modern car engines and the importance of having technical support like specific fitting instructions as accessible and up-to-date as possible. The introduction of the QR code allows garage technicians immediate access, wherever they are, to updated and easy–to-use technical information.”, says Olivier Vigier, Global Technical Support & Product Manager for the SKF Vehicle Aftermarket.

In order to avoid costly damage and customer dissatisfaction as a result of incorrect fitting, the guides include:

  • Detailed instructions on all critical steps as well as re-assembly of the complex timing drive system (e.g. automatic tensioner).
  • Torque values
  • Clear illustrated drawings
  • Blown-up images showing component positioning
  • Tools required for the repair

A total of 126 dedicated step-by-step guides for removal and fitting are currently available online covering 270 timing belt kits (VKMA) and 170 timing belt kits with water pump (VKMC).

Previously, this information was provided in the form of a printed sheet (A0 format) in 7 languages that was included with the kit. The new content is currently available online in English, German, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and Swedish. It will also be available in Russian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian and others by the end of the year.

Further product information can be found in the SKF online catalogue available at or as a download via the SKF Automotive parts search app.
