Condition monitoring and bearing refurbishment services are expected to draw the crowds to SKF’s stand at this year’s show.

At Railtex 2017 on Stand U45, SKF will demonstrate a wide range of services and hardware solutions that bring substantial improvements to rail maintenance scheduling and operational reliability.

SKF Insight Rail takes centre stage this year. This wireless-enabled, vibration sensor-based condition monitoring system provides key information on the state of critical wheelset mechanical components. The sensor signals are processed and transmitted via the GSM network to a remote diagnostics centre for expert analysis. In this way, maintenance can be scheduled according to need rather than on a predefined time interval basis, which may be unnecessary and wasteful in terms of railway stock availability and resources.

SKF offers a comprehensive range of railway bearing-related services that will be highlighted at this year's show. The on-site cartridge bearing exchange service, for example, is fast, convenient and costs a fraction of that of a replacement wheel set. An extended range of engineering services is offered, such as bearing investigation, engineering consultancy and training programmes, along with a dedicated service centre for the refurbishment of wheelset bearings, axleboxes and suspension tubes.

Traction motor testing devices manufactured by SKF’s Fort Collins product design centre will also be on display. Equipment is available for both static (insulation testing) and dynamic (motor and load) performance analysis, including the SKF Static Motor Analyzer Baker AWA portable instrument and the SKF Dynamic Motor Analyzer -EXP4000, which monitors and records up to 120 motor health parameters.

SKF will be showing all these and more at Railtex 2017, the UK's premier event for the international railway equipment, systems and services industries.
