Chemical use and legislative compliance
SKF has made it clear that all hazardous substances as listed in the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List (GADSL), REACH substances of high concern and SIN list, with a concentration limit of 0,1 % (weight), shall not be used in SKF products. In fact, the SKF's Environmental design guidelines is a process where we integrated key environmental issues such as product recyclability, legislative requirements, bio-biodegradability into our new product design and development.
How do we address chemical use?
Solvent and VOC
Solvent use - 50% reduction in absolute term
After successfully achieving previous solvent use reduction target of 25% in 2007 compared to 2002 level, SKF sets a new target, aimed at 50% compared to 2007's level. A 49% reduction was reached 2016.
During the last years, several SKF sites have significantly reduce their use of solvent, but at the same time, the Group has acquired new companies who have not yet deployed solvent reduction activities.
