Waste management and recycling

All SKF units are aiming to minimize waste and increase recycling, for both environmental and cost reasons. Virtually all metal, paper and plastic residuals from SKF's production sites are recycled.

One of the more difficult waste product from SKF’s manufacturing process is grinding swarf for which SKF aims at achieving at least an 80% recycling rate.

This target was achieved in 2013 (80%), in 2014 the rate was further increased to 83%. However in 2017, we are back to 67%.

Variations in regional legislation, volatile scrap prices and other aspects mean that this continues to be a very challenging target to achieve, therefore we will maintain the 80% target up to 2018.
Please visit the Performance monitoring and reporting section for more information about residual products from our manufacturing processes and the respective recycling rate.
