# Variable load and sliding velocity

If the load and/or sliding velocity change during operation, calculate individual rating lives for the periods of constant load and sliding velocity. If the load and sliding velocity occur as shown in diagram 1 (graph a), the individual basic rating life can be calculated using the constant values of p and v. If the load and sliding velocity are not constant as shown in diagram 1 (graph b), first calculate the basic rating life for the individual time periods, using mean values for the load and sliding velocity for the individual time periods. Then calculate the total basic rating life using
