Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), an integral part of the reliability centered maintenance process, identifies equipment function, failure modes and consequences of functional failure by examining ways a physical asset or machine can fail; effects and causes for each failure mode. During the design or operational phases, results are used as input to design tradeoffs, safety engineering, maintenance engineering, maintainability, functional test interval, reliability improvement, work planning, and more.
