Principles and charters
Global Compact by United NationsSKF endorses both the Global Compact and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Global Compact is an international voluntary initiative instituted by the United Nations to realize the vision of having a more sustainable and inclusive global economy. Both the private and public sectors are encouraged to work together to identify and implement solutions to the challenges of globalization.
SKF has participated in the Global Compact since September 2006. As a participating company, SKF not only commits to the defined Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, but also to communicate its progress accountably and transparently via our Annual Report.
SKF is also a signatory to the Caring for Climate initiative driven by Global Compact.
Furthermore, SKF adheres to ILO’s Declaration considering multinational companies, and works to adhere to the OECD Guidelines for Multionational Enterprices.
Business Charter for Sustainable Development by ICCMore than 20 years ago, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) developed Business Charter for Sustainable Development. The objective is to urge business organisations and enterprises for actions in combating increasing scarcity of natural resources and deterioration of environment.
16 principles for environmental management were defined. By endorsing the ICC Charter, companies are required to apply the principles.

To date, more than 2,300 companies have signed up to the Charter and SKF was one of the first companies to commit itself to the principles in 1992. As required by the ICC Charter, SKF applies the precautionary approach to the provision of products and services. Regular assessment of environmental risks and programmes for preventive action are a feature of the Group's environmental management system.
