Complex lubrication requirements

Traditional centrifugal compressors operate with hydrodynamic bearings that require a combination of pumps, filters and complex monitoring equipment. More recent designs use a combination of refrigerant and oil, or simply the refrigerant itself, to lubricate the bearings. Eliminating oil as a lubricant reduces system complexity and cost while improving compressor efficiency and reliability.
