In traditional locating and non-locating bearing arrangements, self-aligning bearings are generally used in both positions. While this arrangement accommodates shaft deflection, it does not enable full axial freedom. To provide full axial freedom, the non-locating bearing must be able to move with the shaft without creating unwanted internal axial loads. The CARB toroidal roller bearing offers this true axial freedom.

CARB is a toroidal roller bearing that combines some of the best aspects of spherical, cylindrical and needle roller bearings. The rollers in a toroidal roller bearing always find the best position to accommodate the load, no matter how the shaft moves.

Intended exclusively as a non-locating bearing, CARB offers an ideal solution when used in combination with a spherical roller bearing in the locating position. With CARB as the non-locating bearing, the internal axial forces that can affect load distribution in traditional arrangements are avoided.
