Grease retention
When frequent relubrication is required, the lip of at least one of the seals in the sealing arrangement should be directed toward the air side so that excess grease can escape via the sealing lip (fig 4). This avoids grease build-up, which can retain heat and limit heat dissipation. For grease lubricated applications, SKF recommends calculating the permissible circumferential speed for oil and halving the result.
