Very large motors

Costly bearing demands

In very large electric motors, the most common bearing type in use is a combination of hydrodynamic bearings and housings. Also known as sleeve or plain bearings, hydrodynamic bearing arrangements can be extremely expensive, often representing up to 8% of the machine cost.

However, there are many large motor applications that don’t actually require hydrodynamic bearing technology. For these, SKF offers an ideal solution.

A cost-effective alternative from SKF

Developed as a less costly alternative to hydrodynamic bearings, the SKF self-aligning bearing system consists of two flanged housings, each equipped with a roller bearing. This innovative system delivers an excellent price/performance ratio vs. equivalent sleeve bearing arrangements.
