A supercharger is an air compressor used for forced induction of an internal combustion engine.

Ituses a mechanically driven blower or compressor to push more air into the intake system while turbocharger is driven by hot exhaust gases exiting the engine.

The primary advantages of supercharging over turbocharging are instant throttle response and more boost at low engine speed. Because a supercharger is belt driven off the crankshaft, it can deliver boost the instant the throttle is opened.
